Frequently Asked Questions

Aluminum vs Steel: What are the advantages?
Aluminum is lighter (better accessibility), naturally corrosion-resistant, and allows for maximum glass area. Steel is heavier, offers higher fire ratings (up to 3 hours), and is typically lower cost.
What fire ratings are available?
Aluminum doors are limited to a maximum 20-minute fire rating due to the melting point of aluminum. For ratings above 20 minutes, steel doors must be specified.
Narrow vs Wide Stile: Which to choose?
Narrow stile (2") maximizes glass for retail. Wide stile (5"+) offers better durability for high-traffic institutional use and accommodates more hardware options.
Anodized or Powder Coat?
Anodized offers a durable, metallic appearance integral to the aluminum. Powder coat provides unlimited color options. Both offer excellent durability.
Are they energy efficient?
Standard frames have moderate performance. Thermal break frames with insulated glass are required for energy-efficient buildings to meet IECC codes.
